Trust & safety
Haven serves teenagers. That makes safety the first feature, not an afterthought — here is the bar every instructor and every classroom meets.
Every instructor is vetted — before their first class
Instructors pass a human application review, government-ID identity verification (via Persona), and a criminal background check (via Checkr) before any listing goes live. Background checks are renewed every year; an expired check suspends teaching immediately.
Locked-down live classrooms
Every session runs in its own unique meeting with a waiting room, instructor-controlled entry checked against the roster, and instructor-gated screen sharing. Students join muted with cameras off by default.
Every session is recorded
All classes are automatically recorded. Recordings are available only to enrolled students, the instructor, and Haven's safety team — never public. Our safety team spot-checks recordings.
Report anything, anywhere
Every course, chat message, and discussion has a report button that goes straight to Haven's safety team. Reports are anonymous to the person reported.
Built for minors' privacy
Haven is for students 13 and up, and we extend children's-privacy-style protections to all minors — not just under-13s. Parents can be linked as observers to see enrollments, schedules, and receipts (never private coursework).
Moderated community spaces
Cohort chats and discussions are course-scoped — there are no open, unmoderated spaces. Instructors and Haven staff can remove content, and repeat offenders are suspended.
See something that worries you? Use the in-app report button or write to safety@haven.courses — a human reads every report.
